Skin Concerns - Dull Skin

Understanding your skin

Dull Skin

As part of the natural wear-and-repair cycle, the skin sheds cells regularly. As we get older, this process begins to slow, resulting in a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface and a dull-looking complexion.

Dull skin may also be caused by a combination of factors, including ageing, sun damage, pollution, extreme weather, dehydration, stress and tiredness. Poor skincare routines, such as not fully removing make-up or using inappropriate products, can also contribute, as can certain medications, poor diet, smoking and excessive alcohol or caffeine consumption.

What you can do

We can work towards a healthy, glowing complexion in the salon, but it is essential to use the right products at home every day. Consistent skincare habits can transform the skin, while regular professional treatments can enhance and accelerate the results.

Skincare

Many moisturisers are made primarily from fats that sit on the skin's surface, whereas dull skin needs to be addressed at a deeper level. Look for high-quality products containing stable vitamin C, lactic acid, glycolic acid or retinol.

  • Exfoliate regularly, using products appropriate for your skin.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet.
  • Get plenty of sleep and try to reduce stress.
